Best known as the cradle of Australian agriculture, Camden played a major role in the development of Australian farming during the early colonial period, with John Macarthur establishing his successful merino estate in Camden Park in 1805. But unlike other outer Sydney suburbs, the settlement has retained its distinctive historic town centre.

Resident Melissa Musgrave is the secretary of non-profit Spirit of Camden, an organisation set up to promote the township. The group is currently planning for the 2027 Spinout Rock and Roll Festival in the wake of a successful inaugural event this year.


“We had lots of live music and bands, dancing and a classic car show, thanks to support from the community and local businesses,” she says. “We’ve got eight pubs and clubs plus a brewery in the town, and they were all activating under the rock and roll theme with 30 bands over a three-day weekend.”
